Kenya is majorly a land of hustlers. Kenyan citizens hold diverse thoughts about money success. A country laced with corruption news and a handful billionaires with a majority living slightly below a dollar per day. Yet it is one of the most beautiful countries in the Africa if not the world.
Kenyans are a people who can get their hands dirty to make ends meet. So riches is mostly viewed as driving a big car, living in above average estate and having your children attend a decent school.
If you are a Kenyan and not born with a silver spoon in your mouth; then there are money ropes you need to learn as discussed below:
learn who you are
The best gift you can give yourself is learning who you are. What are your strengths, weaknesses and what are your skills? What can you achieve with minimum or no supervision? How best can you collect and grow your resources? What stirs you from your sleep? What brings un-upward curve on your lips when the sun rays softly tap your bedroom window?
This is the first step, to a thousand miles you need to acheive your dream, of becoming who you want to be in your environment. Understand how best you are suited in reaching your life goal. Keep your eye on the prize. It’s not easy, but you can do it. It’s not a month’s process, but it might take uncomfortable years of unrelentlessness. Consistency will yield your dreams in your presence.
Do not do it coz so and so is doing it, DO YOU, put your five talents to use. Grow it to ten, and when the rewarder comes for shearing, you will be given of those who never put theirs to use! it takes hardwork, focus, consistency and self belief!
Penny pinching will lead you to your ultimate goal. You can’t penny pinch to a point of being miserable! Work with percentage. How much do you earn? What are your monthly expenses? What are your unavoidable needs? Save a percentage, spend a percentage and play with a percentage. When you work hard, it is okay to also play hard! but you can only play with what you have planned for/with. Playing here equates to rewarding yourself. Buying something you like, going for a holiday at the end of the year and stuff.
Identify a suitable approach
There are many approaches one can apply to reach the same goal. These approaches differ with the environment one is in. What works for you, might not work for the other, since we are different in different environment. With your adaptive nature, you are in a better position to know what can work best for you and what can’t! Follow your instincts unless you are a complete novice!
success comes with simplicity
Everything humans desire, is at their doorstep. We see it, all we need is the inner eye for clarity. To borrow from the alchemist, the boy travelled far and wide to look for gold, only to realize that his desires were back home.
Growing wealth, is like growing a tree. It takes time and discipline. There days it will shed leaves, and days it will regrow them. Days it will look like it’s dying and days it will sprout! So it calls for patience.
growing wealth is like growing a tree.
Money is infinite, time is not
You are not growing any younger, the speed you have at the moment will not live with you forever, you will grow weak, tired, your joints will refuse to carry you one day, your eyes may fail you. Your body will take time to gather heat. So make money in your hay days. Make money when time is ripe for you to. So when all these ‘decaying’ agents refuse to sing your song, you can sing theirs in peace!
Financial freedom is not about reading a list of how to’s if you are doing nothing about your situation. It’s rather a practical path. Path only you can walk, no one will do it for you. You cannot wish your problems away but face them to create a solution.
Become a minimalist and spend only on necessary stuff. Only purchase things you need. The less you need, the more fulfilled you will be.
Learn on personal finance, investment. What can you invest in that will give you a return? Do you have an intreprenural skills? If yes, venture into something that can give you returns. Check on your life strategies and work on them.
